Natural Gas Leaks, Odors or Emergencies

Energy Assistance

At Elkton Gas, we believe there is more than a good way to do business; there is a right way. One of the ways we give back to the communities we live in and serve is by helping those who might need assistance in paying their natural gas bills – particularly in these challenging times.

Get Assistance
Help is available from a variety of programs:

Maryland Energy Assistance Program
If you or someone you know is having trouble keeping up with energy bills, the Maryland Energy Assistance Program (MEAP) offers assistance to income-eligible households. Please contact the Cecil County Department of Social Services at 410-996-0270 or visit the Maryland Office of Home Energy Programs Web site.

The Utility Service Protection Program (USPP) helps low-income families establish even monthly payments with local utility companies such as Elkton Gas. You are eligible for USPP if you qualify for assistance from MEAP and agree to make the required payment each month. You may apply for USPP when you apply for MEAP. With USPP, you will have no deposit or reconnection charges to pay, but you must pay any amount on your past due bill above $400. If you do not use gas as your primary heat source, you must pay the total bill for gas service.

ClearPoint Credit Counseling Solutions (formerly CredAbility)
If you or someone you know is having trouble paying bills, reach out to ClearPointy, a national, nonprofit credit counseling agency at 800-251-2227 (866-616-3717 for Spanish) or visit (Usted puede visitar la versión del español Idioma del sitio haciendo clic aquí.)

Give Assistance
Again and again, Americans show that they are willing to help when times get tough. This humanitarian spirit can also extend to people in your community who need help with their natural gas bills. To help provide assistance with heating bills, you may donate to the Cecil Heating Assistance Program (CHAP) at any time during the year. CHAP funds are provided by voluntary donations from customers like you. To donate, just add $1, $2, $5, $10, $15 or $20 to your monthly bill payment. Our system will automatically recognize your overpayment in the amounts noted above as a donation to CHAP. (PLEASE NOTE: If you would like to pay ahead on your bill, add an amount other than $1, $2, $5, $10, $15 or $20, so that your account is noted correctly.)
